6. Swinging Lamp Inn - two story wooden structure - see building detail map

The Swinging Lamp caters to mercenaries and adventurers. It's prices are fair and the crowd is a bit rowdier than that at the Whispering Winter.

Urlik Frostbeard, the last surviving member of the Band of the Crystal Sphere, frequentely patronizes the inn. He would like nothing more than finding a new adventuring company to join. He lost all of his friends to the dragon Marsquilisk.

A fat-lipped balding halfing name Harmond owns this establishment. Despite his size Harmond throws a good punch and should be considered a specialist with a club. His hair on either side of his bald top flairs out whenever he's angered.

8. Brickmaker

9. Ghoul's Grave Tavern - The Ghoul's Grave is decorated with undead hunting paraphanalia. A vampire head in a jar rests on the bar counter. Two popular games played at the tavern are "Pin the tongue on the zombie" (a game similar to pin the tail on the donkey) and "Shoot the drac" where contestants attempt to shoot an effigy of a vampire in the heart with a crossbow.

14. Menlo's Shop of Alchemy - see building detail map.

Menolo, the shop owner, lost all of his facial hair including his eyebrows in an accident during one of his experiments. However, his continually peeling bleach white skin tells his story more pointedly than his lack of hair to all who see him. Though he never admits it, his face burns constantly and has never healed, though the pain has diminished, since the accident. He would do anything to get some respite.

Despite his disfigurement and discomfort, Menlo manages to keep a fairly optimistic view about his life. He has, he admits, done quite well for himself and become quite prominent among his peers and especially within the "society people" of Frontier. He justifies his illicit sale of illegal poison ingredients as his rightful reward for his previous contribution to science. He even sells an occasionally Type A poison, under-the-counter of course, to help some poor castle owner "kill some rat(s)".

In Verbronc the sale of poison ingredients to a person who plans to use it for anything other than legitimate reasons is illegal. In addition the Royal Bureau of Science publishes an annual list of illicit substances that cannot be legally sold to anyone without a special license. Menlo will sell most of these substance, "with a nod and a wink," to an unlicensed person for double the normal price. He will also purchase these same substance from a person without a license for half the normal price. Most poisons, narcotics, and ingredients known only to be used in poisons are on the list of illicit substances.

Menlo often contracts adventurers to acquire rare or hard to find ingredients. He typically pays from 10-60 gp for these items.
